Arttoo may require you to complete identity verification in line with the EU Anti-Money Laundering 5th Directive (AML 5th Directive). As Arttoo is a global marketplace, we reserve the right to conduct these checks regardless of your or the seller's location.
How Does Arttoo’s Verification Work?
Arttoo partners with Jumio to securely confirm that a collector’s government-issued ID (e.g., driver’s license, passport, or national ID) is valid and matches a submitted photo of the collector. Our verification checks include:
- Confirming payment details to ensure they match the buyer
- Verifying a government-issued ID
- Verifying a selfie to match the ID photo
- Screening against 80+ watchlists, including OFAC, sanctions, Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs), and adverse media
Once verified, your status is valid for three years.
How to complete identity verification
Note: We are unable to accept your ID by email due to security reasons.
-
You should have received an email from Arttoo (verification@arttoo.co, subject line: Time sensitive: Please verify your identity
with Arttoo) prompting you to verify your identity. Please be
sure to check your Spam or Promotions folder if you do not see
the email in your inbox.
-
After clicking “verify my identity”, you’ll be brought to an
Arttoo page. Please make sure you are logged into your Arttoo
account to move forward, otherwise you will receive an error
page or be brought to the homepage instead. Please be sure to
use one of the below supported browsers: Safari, Chrome, or
Microsoft Edge
-
Click "Continue to verification" and the below page will
appear
- Submit your preferred valid government issued ID.
- For ID cards, the system will prompt you to submit a photo of the front and/or back of your ID.
- Select Take Photo and make sure your camera settings are enabled. Our system does not accept files or copies of IDs.
- After submitting your ID, the system will prompt you to submit a live selfie photo of yourself.
-
After completing the selfie, the system will analyze your
photo (please do not close the browser). Once finished, the
screen will refresh and confirm that your verification is
processing.
More information on the AML 5th Directive
The EU Anti-Money Laundering 5th Directive (AML 5th Directive) is a regulation which took effect on January 1st, 2020. It extends AML measures to industries, including art dealers and auction houses, by requiring stricter identity verification and transaction monitoring, especially for transactions over €10,000. This measure ensures that institutions follow similar regulations to banks and financial entities, increasing transparency and oversight to prevent illicit financial activities within the art market.
